Didier Défago has won the Super G in Kitzbühel ahead of Bode Miller (+0.05). Aksel Lund Svindal and Max Franz (+0.15) share the third place. 15 days before the Olympic Games in Sochi, this is a huge victory for the reigning Downhill Olympic Champion.
"I'm happy. I had a great feeling during the race. I was angry after the downhill. Since Bormio, I know that I'm not far from the podium. Today, I do a run without mistakes. I didn't think I was ahead because the course was very tight!"
The racer from Lange Team has already had a good result on the Streif with a win in 2009 in downhill. Luc Alphand, three times winner in Kitzbühel, was very impressed by Defago's performance: "Didier, it's my hero! I found that it was huge when he has made the double Wengen-Kitz in 2009. He has the racing in the blood, I'm happy for him!"
Today, Didier Défago signs his second career victory in Super G. "My skis were well prepared, I would like to say my servicemen big thanks".
Lara Gut from Lange Team has signed her third victory in Super G this season after Beaver Creek and Lake Louise. In Cortina d'Ampezzo, she has found once again the way of the podium ahead of Tina Weirather and another Lange Icon Maria Höfl-Riesch. The Swiss racer secures her leadership in Super G World Cup standing.
"It is a good feeling to win today. I started the season so strong with four podiums in the early races, but then the tour came back to Europe and I never to be seen on the podium again. It was a difficult time, I could see success in my mind, but you couldn't see it on the slopes. Now today, this win, it was very important for me." (Quote: Fis Alpine)
Maze, the come-back!
Heroe(s) in this news Tina MAZE
Tina Maze has signed her first season victory in Cortina d'Ampezzo. The Lange Icon 2014 has won the downhill ahead of Marianne Kaufmann-Abderhalden and Tina Weirather. She has changed her coach since few weeks and she seems to be more confident: "Mauro Pini brought peace in the team, it just became easier with him. We knew he was a great coach with a lot of experience. With him in the team, I just have to focus on my skiing and not on other matters. He understood the situation and all the emotions going through my body and mind. He told me not to fight against but to accept the emotions and ski with it. "
The last downhill victory for the Lange racer was in Garmisch-Partenkirchen one year ago: "Today I managed to do a great run from top to bottom. I have had my ups and downs this winter and one learns much more from losing. It's just feels good right now." (Quote: Fis Alpine)
