Pierre called me a few days before the outing. Preparation of the itinerary, check of the weather and the ARO, check of the equipment... Nothing had to be left to chance, so that we could enjoy the moment 100%.
After a short drive, we arrived on the spot. We could already see the summit where we were going to go. We put on our outfits, our Lange XT3 Tour Pro boots, put the skins on the skis and did a last check of the equipment. Without forgetting the traditional DVA check before leaving.
After a few meters along the slope, we arrived in the middle of a forest. And the landscape started to clear little by little to give way to a panorama of mountains in front of us.
Fortunately Pierre was there, always with his good mood and his jokes ... not always funny, but which make you forget the difficulty of the climb.
The landscape was magnificent with its spring colors. We were alone in front of the mountains, without any noise, one foot in front of the other to reach the summit. A feeling of freedom and well-being was running through us. The late season snow was starting to stick to our skins, making each step a little more difficult.
After a short break to hydrate and eat a cereal bar, we started the last few hundred meters of ascent. We are close to the goal, and it is at this moment that we become aware of the place, of the magic moment that we live.
"We are divided between the joy of arriving at the top and enjoying each step that leads us to the summit, and the excitement of the descent, of the sensations that this one will give us."
Finally arrived! My first reaction is to breathe deeply, blow and raise my head. I sit down and take the time to admire the landscape. The mountains are still covered with snow, the plains in the distance are green and the trees in bloom. We are between two seasons. The colors are accentuated by an orange sun at the end of the day. The weather was finally on our side.
We then equipped ourselves and took off the skins to start the most pleasant part: the descent! And not just any descent, a descent with the sunset. After a few turns to get our feet wet, the snow was rather soft but pleasant to ski. The key word, fun and enjoy the last turns of a special season. Nothing more wonderful than a sunset descent shared with your best friend. The sensations were multiplied tenfold and made the moment unique. The more we descended, the more the light diminished, we had to be careful at each turn.
We had now a few meters of descent left, the memories of the season were passing in our heads. The mission was accomplished, to finish on a good note. We could now go home, put the skis away and think about the next season.
